About the UK Young Ambassadors
Our mission is to ensure the central role of young people in international decision-making through effective and inclusive representation to secure lasting and positive change for young people in the UK.
Basically, we want young people to have a voice on issues that they care about and on decisions that affect them.
Why?
Young people have a right to have a say on the decisions that affect them. More and more the decisions that affect young people in the UK are made at meetings and forums all over the World - in Europe, at the United Nations and at the Commonwealth. It is important for young people to have a voice and be represented at these forums to influence decisions, policies and actions.
Also, issues like poverty, employment, climate change and conflict – issues that affect us all and issues that will continue to affect many generations to come - are discussed at international meetings and events. Young people should have a voice in these discussions too.
Who?
The Young Ambassadors are a team of 6 young people (aged 16-25) from across the United Kingdom with diverse backgrounds and experiences. They reach out to their communities and networks to listen to the concerns and views of young people which they take to international forums and meetings to ensure they are heard at the highest level. They receive training and support to develop their skills and knowledge to do this effectively.
The UK Young Ambassadors are part of a growing network determined to bring about positive change for young people.
UK Young Ambassadors run in partnership by the British Youth Council, Funky Dragon, Northern Ireland Youth Forum, Scottish Youth Parliament and the UK Youth Parliament.
We are funded by the Department for Education, the Joint International Unit and the British Council.
